VW CEO Herbert Diess posted an update on Twitter showing concept art for the new bus and confirming it would get a proper debut March 9.

According to a report from The Detroit News, VW had previously said it planned to sell an electric version of its iconic microbus in the U.S. At the end of 2021, the German automaker outlined an investment of around $100 billion in EV development through the next five years. The company has developed an EV architecture and accompanying software platform that “will underpin 27 battery-powered models by the end of this year.”

The original VW microbus was a staple of 1960s hippie culture and “has a dedicated fan following.” An electric version of the classic van has been in development and mulled by the automaker since 2017, when an initial concept was shown off.
