The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), was enacted on 31 July 2020, and every institution and organisation in South Africa must comply with this Act and its regulations by no later than 30 June 2021.

Non-compliance can lead to considerable fines or imprisonment.

In lieu of the above, NEASA urges all employers to initiate the process of becoming compliant with the Act as soon as practicably possible. NEASA offers assistance with becoming fully POPIA compliant.

Towards the end of last year, NEASA hosted a complimentary webinar on the purpose, operation, application and consequences of the POPI Act last year. To listen to a recording of this webinar, please click here.
