Stellantis South Africa issued an urgent Stop-Drive safety action regarding Takata Airbags installed on certain models.

December 04, 2025 – Stellantis South Africa is issued an urgent Stop-Drive safety warning for selected Stellantis owned brands Citroën, DS, Chrysler, Jeep, and Opel. This directive forms part of the global Takata airbag recall, which continues to affect multiple manufacturers worldwide.
Takata airbag inflators have been shown to deteriorate over time, particularly when exposed to hot and humid climates. Under these conditions, the inflators may explode when the airbags deploy and project metal fragments which could cause serious injury or even death.
Stellantis is actively recalling all affected vehicles of its brands to change the airbags for all customers. For this purpose, Stellantis has launched an online ‘VIN Check tool’,
which can also be accessed at https://www.recall.stellantis.com/#/takata, which allows vehicle owners to verify if their vehicle is affected by simply entering their vehicle identification number (VIN).
Stellantis is urging all owners or users of the following vehicles, equipped with Takata airbags that have not yet been replaced, to immediately stop driving their vehicle and to contact Stellantis to have the required repairs carried out free of charge.
