Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has extended the grace period for expired learner’s licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving permits until the end of August 2021.

This extension does not include car licence discs.

Mbalula has gazetted the changes to the lockdown regulations on December 3. Essentially all of the above mentioned licences that expired between March 26 and December 31 will be valid until end August 2021.

The extended validity period does not apply to those licences that expire on January 1 2021. Motorists are urged that if their licences expire outside of the March-December period, to apply for a new permit well in advance of its expiration date due to the current backlog being experienced across the country.
