A piece of Canadian-made ADAS technology has gotten an official vote of confidence from a major global automaker, as Magna International announced that its proprietary system will be launched on the new 2022 Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
Magna’s ADAS makes use of five cameras and an advanced electronic control unit to provide a high-resolution display of the vehicle’s surroundings. According to the company’s press release, the data collected from the cameras can “render a seamlessly stitched, ‘fly-around’ 3D image of the vehicle.”
Fitting to the system’s debut on the Toyota Tundra, Magna also said this product launch will include advanced trailer assist and off-road functions for those looking for a little more security when hauling a trailer.
These functions include trailer guidance, a feature to aid drivers in reversing while pulling a trailer; a multi-terrain view that gives drivers the options for visibility in all directions, including a birds-eye-view; and a “see-through hood” that detects small obstacles that would otherwise be obscured by a truck’s larger hood.
Magna’s senior v-p of electronics, Sharath Reddy, said the company is proud to make the experience of towing a trailer just a little bit more comfortable.
“We’re proud to be launching one of our most advanced vision systems that provides truck and trailer consumers with enhanced levels of comfort, safety and peace of mind,” said Reddy.
“Trailering can be a challenging task and with this intuitive system, consumers can feel safer and more confident in maneuvering the vehicle, whatever they’re hauling.”
