A new service to renew licence disks was launched by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), it will be an online service using a new payment gateway.

The new payment gateway is enabled by First National Bank (FNB) to allow motorists across South Africa to register, renew and pay for their license discs through the NaTIS online platform.
With over 2.4 million motorists renewing their license discs annually, this service will enable them to save time by avoiding long queues, fines, and penalties for late renewal, the RTMC said on Monday (11 October).
The RTMC said it has already witnessed increased online activity with more than 6,700 motorists using the NaTIS online crash reporting platform since its introduction in 2019.
“We are delighted to partner with the Road Traffic Management Corporation to make the online licence disk renewal service possible. Covid-19 has accelerated growth in the digital and eCommerce sectors, with more consumers preferring to shop and access essential services online,” said Sipho Silinda, FNB public sector CEO.
“By adding a digital payment option for motorists, RTMC aims to reduce cash-handling risks for all persons involved, including that of South Africans. This will assist in reducing operational costs and pass these savings to South Africans by introducing more innovative services to motorists while maintaining the levels of service expected of them.”
Motorists will be required to:
- Log into the NaTIS platform
- Select ‘View Motor Renewals’
- Choose the licence disc/car
- Capture card details of the respective bank and pay
Once payment has been made, motorists will have a choice to have the car license disc couriered to their address of choice or get it printed at the nearest Driver Licence Testing Centre (DLTC).
Meanwhile, theSouth African Post Office says it is also working on several initiatives that will significantly expand its service offerings at branches across the country.
Among these new initiatives, SAPO said it would introduce a new mobile application at the end of October 2021 that will enable vehicle owners to renew licences via mobile phone.
“The renewal and payment will be done using the app, and the motorist can then choose to collect the disk from any convenient post office or have it delivered to an address of their choice. The motor vehicle licence renewal service is currently available in all provinces except the Western Cape, where it will be introduced soon,” the post office said.
The group said that more than three million motor vehicle licences were renewed at its branches in the past financial year.
